Discussion

  1. Yes, I do think the fact that the British are islanders has had an effect on the people and their values, because they are more lonely on an Island then in a country. They have their government in Edinburgh instead of London.
  2. I would preferred to live in England because it is not on an island like Ireland. England is a big country with many different stores, modern technology and the capital is London which is a world famous city.

Viewpoints
1)
I do think English threatens the position of national languages in Norway, because more people are coming to Norway now then before. We uses English much more daily then for 100 years ago.  So I think maybe English will take over in the future, but it will take some 100 years.
2)
No i don't think any other languages can threaten English as a world language, because it's no languages which is so big like English today. And English is just getting more popular. We are using English much more daily then before, and i just think English will get bigger.

Why So Much Variety in English?-Tasks
1.      There is a difference between the varieties of English spoken in the north and the south of England because the Vikings invaded North-East England and the Midlands. They brought with them their language to the North, so they started to speak more like them.
2.      The term ‘’substrate language’’ is that another language was there before another took over. Like when the Viking invaded North-East England and brought with them their language and that language took over.
3.      A local accent is important for the inhabitants in a particular area because they are included in our overview of varieties of English.
4.      Peoples which contributed to the language in the British Isles is the Vikings, the French people, the Caribbean people, the Indian people, the Africa people and the Australian people.
5.      The difference between the accents in New England, Southern USA and General American is that New England has no post-vocalic ‘’r’’, so they said words like car without a final ‘’r’’. In General American they do pronounce ‘’r’’, and in the Southern USA the vocalic ‘’r’’ was in the process of disappearing or had disappeared. Where people were settled in different areas was determined their peculiarities.
6.      The difference between the African English used in Jamaica and that used in Nigeria is the creation of pidgins and creoles.

The five main spelling differences between AE and BE are:

Task 1 page 30
If you never have been hated by your child, you have never been a parent.

I think this quote says many important things. I think it mean's that your child has been mad at you, because you didn't allow them to do something they really wanted. Because parents can't always say yes, to everything the child wants. The child must learn that the parents are the bosses and how they must behave. If a child has never hated their parents, the parents haven't been doing a good job. Because nearly every child asks about things. Some of these things their parents can't give them or allow them to do, and then many children get mad. Also because sometimes the child have to do things they don't want to do.

Poem

The road goes far away
Tall trees stands next to the road
Some people stands and pray
Fields lays far away

The school is at a little hill
Full of students with cars
who don't pay a bill
but still they are stars

1)

No Man is an Island

It tells about our relationship with each other that we are not just one, but part of a bigger group. It says that we are close to each other and want us to sorrow for everyone.

I am a rock

The song says that we never need to feel sorrow or cry, if we do not have any friends or someone we love. Because we don't know them, and we don't need to be sad if we lose them. He don't want to make more friends, because he has probably lost a friend or someone he loved and don't want to be hurt again.

You'll Never walk Alone

The song says that you never are alone even in the darkest moments of your life. That you most keep on believing and go on. That you never most give up and that you never are alone with it, that you always have someone with you somewhere.

2)

The difference between the poem and the songs is that the poem is about the humankind, that we all are a part of a big group, and not are lonely in the world.  The song I am a rock is about a man who is hurt and very sad because he lost one he loved. The last song is about hope, believe and that you never most give up, you are never alone.

3)

I liked the song You’ll Never walk Alone by Rogers and Hammerstein, because it’s much emotions in the song. It have much to say and it is a very good and catchy song, and I like the voice to the singers.
